Andy's Lair
NannyMUD

NannyMUD is, basically, a Swedish made and run MUD (multi user dungeon) that has players playing on it from all over the world, from, I think, all the continents of the world. There is a more detailed description down below.

Started in late April, 1990, NannyMUD has grown from taking up the hard disk on one old crappy machine to taking up 4 Gb's of hard disk on a reasonably good machine (by 1999 standards anyway). The MUD grew steadily and by 1994 it had a total of 16000 rooms and many players and today it has 50000 rooms and about 1000 characters saved on its database and an average of 42.5 (stupid statistics) players on at a time. There is also a grand total of 13 guilds to join, 111 quests to do and a load of clubs to join.

The guilds range from the goodly Knights who thrive on being good to the demonic Dark guild who thrive on being evil. The sheer diversity of the MUD means that if you keep exploring and finding new stuff you will never be bored of the MUD and if you tire of exploring or killing then you can always do some questing or idle and talk to the diversity of people logged on at once and almost never tire of the conversation. Like I said earlier there are people playing the MUD from all over the world and so you get a taste of many different cultures. The picture below displays which countries in the world have NannyMUD players in them. It's just a guess but I think the darker the colour the higher the concentration of players.
